Thales is expanding its presence in Romania through the development of a Group Engineering Competence Centre (ECC), reinforcing its position as a leader in all its markets. Launching in early 2019 in Bucharest, the ECC will deliver solutions beyond ground transportation, in a number of core Thales business areas, from space and defence, to security and aeronautics. The ECC will deliver a first class Thales engineering capability in Romania thanks to the existing ecosystem of skilled engineers and the agile environment that Bucharest has to offer. JAVA SOFTWARE DEVELOPER for Space applications

Thales Systems Romania (TSR) is now developing its capacities in SW development for Space applications in collaboration with Thales Alenia Space (TAS).

Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales (67%) and Leonardo (33%), is a key European player in space telecommunications, navigation, Earth observation, exploration and orbital infrastructures. Because of its unrivaled expertise in dual (civil/military) missions, constellations, flexible payloads, altimetry, meteorology and high-resolution optical and radar instruments.

Job summary

Thales Systems Romania is setting up a team to support Thales Alenia Space forge team. Software development will be done according to Agile methodology (SCRUM).

  • Design and implement backend using agreed standards and tools, to achieve a well-engineered result
  • Assists as part of the team on the design of components of larger systems
  • Produces detailed designs including, for example, physical data flows, file layouts, common routines and utilities, program specifications or prototypes and backup, recovery and restart procedures
  • Puts skills and project based experience into practice and provides support to less experienced colleagues
  • Takes part in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues’ work
  • Tests the programmed solution

Required competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or similar
  • Professional experience in Java software development
  • Knowledge in using: Linux (comfortable using bash terminal)
  • Knowledge in EE framework/technologies  and tools like: Git, Jira
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English
  • Availability to travel

Would be a plus:

  • Work experience in Agile software development processes
  • Knowledge of Angular, Spring, Hibernate
  • Working  experience in software development with TypeScript
  • Knowledge in using: Jenkins, Junit, Maven
  • Architecture micro-services
  • Vert.x
  • Drools, Slurm, JGroups, NetCDF know-how
  • Knowledge in Arcadia for modeling and Doors to manage traceability
  • French language
