Thales Romania is a major player in the Romanian rail transport industry delivering advanced signaling, supervision and control systems for railways, having a Competence Centre employing over 280 software engineers.

Thales Romania has significant collaborations with other Thales units, such as Thales Germany, Thales UK and Thales France. A short reminder of our projects should include safety critical systems for railway transportation for Denmark, Norway, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Israel, Switzerland. Another project we embarked on is Integrated Supervision and Control System (ISCS) and Train management solutions.

Not to be missed is the ELI-NP- a laser with a power of 2x10 PW. The first components of the world's most powerful laser system have been delivered and installed on the ELI-NP site, in Magurele, Romania.

Thales Romania delivers advanced signaling, supervision and control systems for railways in close cooperation with Thales Germany, information systems for England’s motorways and major roads in close cooperation with Thales UK and Human Computer Interfaces (HCI) for air and land simulators in cooperation with Thales France.

The Thales Air Traffic Management Business Line manages a comprehensive list of systems which provide advanced and innovative safety nets and air traffic management services to support air traffic controllers and contribute to maintaining the highest levels of safety in the word airspace.

One of the major components of these ATM systems is the Data Preparation (DPR), which has as operational functions the following:

  • System parameters (dataset) preparation
  • Maps generation & visualization
  • System parameter consistency checks
  • Dataset management & delivery (distribution)

The data managed by DPR are:

  • Airspace elementary and complex volumes
  • Airspace significant points
  • Airways
  • Airports
  • Aircraft parameters
  • Aircraft performances
  • Airlines performance preferences
  • Rules for coordination state
  • Rules for transfer change
  • Letter of Agreement etc.

We are seeking smart engineers passionate by software technologies and Air Traffic Management business to perform the development of ATM system components in cooperation with Thales France.

After a period of knowledge transfer in France, the new Bucharest team will work accordingly to AGILE development lifecycle, through designing, developing and testing activities.

Job summary

  • Contribution to the software architectural design
  • Design, Software Development & Verification
  • Refinement of the components requirements
  • Assembly of the software components in a logical and controlled manner to evaluate the design, behavior, interactions and performance, and to confirm that the requirements against which the software components have been designed are fulfilled
  • Proficiency in Automated Development & Verification environment & tool sets, configuration management (DOORS), programming languages like ADA/Java/C/C++/Bash Shell
  • Participation in the configuration item integration and verification phases;
  • Contribution to the production of the software data package for release  to solution
  • Configuration Management of the Software Components
  • Contribution to Change Management of the Software Solution
  • Maintaining software development and processes related documentation

Required competencies:

  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or similar    
  • General programming skills in one of the following languages: C, C++, Java SE
  • XML
  • Shell
  • Git
  • Continuous build (Jenkins, Sonar)
  • Highly proficient in spoken and written English
  • Capacity to plan and control a planning
  • Initiative and innovation capacity
  • Capacity to analyze a problem and solve it
  • Risk management capacity
  • Synthesis and reporting capacity
  • Leadership skills
  • Knowledge of the preparation of the specifications and object-oriented design
  • Proven experience in writing technical documentation

Would be a plus:

  • ADA
  • GNAT Programming Studio
  • Scripting languages: Perl, Python, Bash
  • Knowledge of AGILE / Lean methods
  • Spoken and written French
