Manufacturing Technician – Electrical Wiring
Location: Glasgow

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Land and Air Systems (LAS) Optronics business unit as a Manufacturing Technician, working within our world renowned team based in Glasgow. In this role you will work closely with existing team members, Work Cell Manager and Manufacturing Engineers in delivering the outputs, primarily conducting wiring and soldering associated tasks as per the business requirements.

From horizon-to-horizon airborne reconnaissance to technology that captures and relays over nine million pixels every second, our products include some of the most advanced reconnaissance systems in the world. So whether our people are developing next-generation infrared and thermal imaging, liaising with global customers or providing essential business support, they play a key role in information and enabling critical decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform Manufacturing operations in accordance with the associated documentation provided to the quality standards expected in a timely and professional manner.
  • Adhere to the defined company processes when carrying out all tasks
  • Wiring and soldering new electrical components and wiring systems
  • Wiring and soldering as part of the build and test of opto-mechanical subassemblies
  • Input and support any continuous improvement actions being worked on within industry
  • Be able to detect any fault or non-compliance and if necessary raise the alert - in addition (when able) should contribute to diagnostics and the finding of the cause/root analysis
  • Manage and record build configuration of product
  • Use the company tools (IBS, Palma etc) when carrying out product assembly tasks
  • Perform self-assessment and approval of products


Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Ability to interpret and understand engineering drawings and wiring diagrams is essential
  • Experience wiring and soldering is essential
  • Experience in working within an Industrial / Engineering environment
  • Ability to assemble and test product to a high standard
  • Practical experience with the manufacture of cable assemblies and/or wiring harnesses
  • Proven experience working to standards including IPC610, IPC620 and J-STD-001 is desirable
  • The ability to work on own initiative when required
  • The ability to work and contribute as a team player
  • A basic level of PC skills
