We are currently looking for a Buyer to join Thales in  Irvine CA. The Buyer will represent the Thales IFE division with external suppliers and be based within a Thales IFE Business Line in Irvine California or Melbourne/Orlando Florida and  be responsible for all Purchase Order creation, changes, and cancellation along with being the primary point of contact with the supplier communication for his/ hers assigned category.

The Buyer, will be responsible for the day to day execution of the workload including but not limited to requesting quotations, negotiating pricing within the Delegation of Authority thresholds, ensuring accuracy of the order, GL account, project number, relevant notes and requirements for the Purchase Order and any related documentation.

He/She is responsible for securing the best procurement solution (quality, price and timing), meeting the customer needs and aligned with the relevant Procurement Strategy lead by the Category Buyers.  Buyers also have the responsibility of managing disputes that may arise throughout the process.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Represent Tactical Procurement Team within Integrated Product Team (IPT) to support new developments
  • Responsible to manage Procurement Purchase Contracts with the key suppliers assigned to her/him
  • Execute all Day To Day activities related to Procurement Purchase Contracts.
  • Transforming Purchase Requisitions (PRs) as well as Industrial Operations Internal requisitions into Supplier Purchase Orders (POs).
  • Ensuring supplier acknowledgement of Purchase Order receipt and delivery commitment.
  • Managing purchase order cancellation, rescheduling or PO information changes (quantity, price, and requirements).
  • Follow-up and expediting of purchase orders.
  • Managing disputes and problem solution.


  • Manage local negotiations within the (DOA) Delegation of Authority thresholds and in alignment with Regional Procurement Category Managers and Buyers


  • Report on procurement projects and support New Product Integration responsibilities as per the Chorus 2.0 process
  • To be accountable for compliance with Thales procurement policy and with the "Manage Acquisition" process of Chorus 2.0.
  • Ensure application of the supplier qualification process and usage of relevant tools (e.g. e-ACQ) so that there is a clear transparency of all work on a global basis.
  • Quote Management per the Thales prescribed tool RFx in e-ACQ under DoA.
  • Prepare reports on purchases, including cost analysis.
  • Report on individual and Team KPI;s
  • Participate and/or Lead Supplier reviews (Weekly Delivery reviews, Performance improvement and Supplier Program Reviews.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, supply chain, or business with minimum 5-8+ years of experience or Master’s degree in engineering, supply chain, or business with 4+ years of experience
  • Experienced in SAP or equivalent ERP systems
  • Experience working both individually and as part of a larger team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Understanding of the in-flight entertainment and aerospace connectivity industry and of products’ lifecycles
  • Understanding of Make/Buy approaches and inputs as well as supplier risk assessment and mitigation planning
  • Ability to capture the long term vision of a product or strategic objectives of a project and apply procurement expertise to aid in meeting the same
  • Certification in Supply Chain Management
  • Master’s Degree
