Thales people architect solutions that support 85 million mainline and suburban passenger journeys, worldwide, every day. Together We deployed the first-ever nationwide ticketing system which processes over 50 million ticketing transactions in 100 cities daily.

In Austria customers in rail transportation, air traffic, cybersecurity and defence missions rely on Thales. Additionally, our expertise in signalling gives people and goods in Central and Eastern European markets, like Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia and Albania, the connected journey they deserve. No matter how challenging the project, our 400 employees in Vienna stay by our customer’s side until the job is done – whatever it takes.

To support our project management team in Vienna, we are looking for a:

Senior Project Manager – International Railway Projects (f/m)

Your challenge:

  • Main interface to the customer, active communication and negotiation with the customer
  • Management, coordination and motivation of the project team
  • Project scheduling (WBS structure)
  • Project documentation
  • Resources allocation and tracking
  • Costs/sales/cash tracking
  • Thorough and continuous risk management, ensuring that all risks and opportunities are properly addressed and mitigated
  • Coordination and management of subcontractors including intra-group suppliers
  • Ensure that project reporting is performed and report consolidated results periodically in a matrix organization

Your profile:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in managing international, customer-facing IT or Turn-Key projects
  • Completed academic education with strong technical background (preferably university level)
  • Excellent knowledge of project management tools and methods (PMI, IPMA or similar certification preferred)
  • Demonstrated success in managing the entire lifecycle of complex, long-term (3-5 years) and customer-facing projects.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and make decisions under pressure
  • High level of flexibility and a proactive attitude
  • Outstanding organizational skills and strong management skills and leadership
  • Understands the particularities of public-sector projects
  • Ability to work, communicate and interface effectively in an intercultural environment with customers, partners and employees
  • An excellent command of English is a must. Knowledge of German is an advantage.
  • Occasional European and international travel required
